The Experience of a New Blogger – Week 9

Welcome to the experience of a new blogger – week 9. This would be my experience of course. This is where I will go over everything that has happened over the past week and what my experience as a new blogger have been. If you’re new to PPF Financial then let me start off by welcoming you to my blog. If you’re not then let me welcome you back!

I wanted to make a weekly blog update at the end of every week for the first year of my blogs life. The reason I am doing this is to give any current or future readers an insight into all the making of my blog. Plus it will be something I could look back on later and enjoy the hard work and dedication I put into blogging.

Those of you who have been here before, feel free to skip ahead to the first section. For those who have not, the reason I want to be so transparent is to help build up some trust between you and me. There are many places you could about finance and many other things you could be doing. The fact is you are here with me now and I want to help build a lasting relationship. Let us begin shall we?

Every week I will cover:

•  What next week will look like

•  Did I meet the goals set last week

•  My websites traffic report

•  The social media attention I received

•  A list of articles posted during the week

•  The goals I hope to achieve next week

My hope is to eventually be able to blog full-time and become my own boss. None of this will be possible without the help of everyone who checks up on me every week. So far all of you, I thank you and I appreciate any and all support.

I really do enjoy doing this and I hope that I can help even just one person out. That would be enough for this all to be worth it. Every week I post these articles, I want to be able to inspire and motivate someone to do better for themselves.  This is as much about every single one of you as it is about me!

What Next Week is Going to Look Like

I know it has been several weeks where I mentioned getting a new theme and logo setup. So far I have pushed it off and pushed it off. Well, you’ll be happy to know, I’ve got my logo and a new theme ready to be uploaded now. This coming week I will have both up on display for your viewing pleasure. It took me forever to find a theme that I was happy enough with to actually put money into it. I didn’t do enough research the first time, which ended up costing me a theme I’ll probably never use again.

With the new look, I will come with a new and rejuvenated attitude on getting my stuff out in a timely fashion. I would like to publish a schedule each month of what I would like to do. Hopefully this will help keep me on track. Instead of trying to help manage money, maybe I need help managing time! There truly isn’t enough of it.

Next week I am going to spend more time on social media. I started off really strong in this department and kind of lost it as of recent. If anyone has any advice on how to manage or use Twitter effectively I would be happy to hear it. I can’t seem to understand how or why I need or would use Twitter. Pinterest and Facebook will surely get some love this coming week though.

It’s getting closer and closer to the new year so I’ll be looking for ideas on financial New Year’s Resolutions! If any of you have any ideas, I would love for you to send them to me. You can email them to me, leave a comment, respond on any social media platform, or any other way you find to contact me. If you have a website (doesn’t have to be related to anything financial), include your website with your suggestion. If I use it, I’ll be sure to include your name and website with the resolution you submitted!

•  Get to 300 likes on my Facebook group page  – FAILED

•  Pin 10 times everyday this week on Pinterest  – SUCCESS

•  Publish two blog articles this week  – FAILED

•  Setup the new theme for my blog  – FAILED

•  Be more active on my blog and more interactive with my readers  – SUCCESS

This week was a little better than the past couple of weeks. I managed to meet both of my Pinterest goals. My Facebook goal was crazy close to being met this week! I didn’t put enough effort into it at the beginning of the week and tried to cram all of the work I needed done at the end. Twitter didn’t do too bad this week, but I was still 71 away from meeting my goal. Hopefully I can do some research on how I can improve my Twitter usage. If I find something, I’ll be sure to let all of you know!

I wasn’t incredibly more active this week with my blog and readers, but given the record from the past couple of weeks, I would say it was a needed improvement. Still, I would like to continue to increase this a little bit more each week. I cut back on working as much overtime at work so that should help with some of my issues with having enough time.

I wasn’t able to get two blog articles posted this week, but I still did 100% more this week then I did the last week. The one I was able to publish was My Trip to a Professional Football Game. This is the first thing completed on my bucket list since I started blogging!!! Hopefully I can complete several more and give you some more about those. If you get a chance to read that article, please tell me what you think about it. How can I make the next one better?

Website Traffic Report

Weekly Views  – 208 (was 177)

Weekly Visitors  – 148 (was 118)

Top Views in a Day  – 44 (was 39)

Best Day  – Friday

Alexa Ranking U.S.  – 626.323 (was 492,986)

Alexa Ranking Global  – 2,238,927 (was 3,263,764)

My weekly views and weekly visitors increased this week. I’m sure this has a lot to do with me being a little more active on Pinterest. I know for a fact it has a lot to do with my blog being added to StumbleUpon. I have no clue how to use this platform but from the boost it gave me in traffic, I am anxious to find out more about it. Hopefully I can focus more attention on social media than I have been. I’m sure there will be a significant boosts in traffic when I do.

My best days are always changing. It is pretty hard to find a set day that I get the most traffic. Once I can get more information about this, I’ll try to post on those dates to help boost my views on new blogs. Until then, I’m just going to continue posting on whatever day I am able to get the article up. I hope to have a schedule setup by the end of the year. It should help keep me on track and work well with my personal schedule.

I’ve continued to do better each week in my global Alexa rankings. Finally, I was able to pull my U.S. ranking back up. It has gone back up from the last time I was able to read it, but I am sure whatever caused it to disappear on me, is probably the culprit for the loss in ranking. I didn’t list Canada up there this time around but for those of you who are interested it is currently at 53,284 (it was 98,357). I’m still not 100% sure how to explain my following in Canada but I wont complain. For you Canadians out there, I thank you!!

Social Media Attention

Facebook  – 292 (up 9 from last week)

Pinterest  – 1260 (up 75 from last week)

Twitter  – 929 (up 24 from last week)

I know I’ve already mentioned a bit about my social media already but I really do need to increase these areas at a faster rate. I am relying on social media to bring me most of my traffic as I grow. Because of this, I need to try to be visible in this areas. Pinterest has by far been my most reliable source of traffic. I haven’t gone viral on anything yet but  I do see where it could happen.

Several posts have received a significant boost in attention just by certain people sharing my stuff. Maybe one day I’ll be blessed with a viral post. I want to help this along by creating a very detailed article. This one will take me a long time to complete but hopefully it will be worth it when I finish. If I can find the time, I hope to have this ready for viewing sometime in February.

Blog Posts From This Week

My Trip to a Professional Football GameOpportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them - Ann Landers

Above is my only blog post from this past week. It is part of my bucket list series and is hopefully the first of many more! It is a little lengthy, but full of a lot of great details and a wonderful memory for me. I hope it can inspire even just one person to get out and do some of the things you want to do before your time runs out. There are many more I would like to do before  I get older. I’m not sure how amazing it would be to skydive when I’m 70 years old.

One blog I came across this week was 8 Social Media Hacks by Janice Wald. She stresses exactly what I’ve been wanting to do, build a social media following. You’ll find many helpful ideas to increase your social media attention. I’ve looked around her blog and I’ve seen quite a few things I’ve saved to read later. If you find the time, I would swing by and take a look at what she is doing, over there, for yourself.

Another blog post  I came across this week was 20 Best Facebook Groups for Bloggers by Tina Ernspiker. Here you will find, you guessed it, 20 recommended Facebook groups for bloggers. I’ve taken a look through some of them personally, and they do seem to be pretty decent groups with plenty of active members willing to help out their fellow bloggers. If you’re just getting started, it wont take you long to realize that there is a blogging community and they are almost always willing to help each other out. Stop and check out the groups for yourself, if you find yourself leaving a comment on Tina’s page, feel free to let her know I sent you ;).

Next Weeks Blogging Experience Goals

•  Reach 1350 followers on Pinterest

•  Have 1000 Twitter followers

•  Get to 325 likes on my Facebook group page

•  Post 5 things each day on Facebook and Twitter

•  Publish two blog articles this week

•  Setup the new theme and logo for my blog

•  Comment on 20 other blogger’s pages

ConclusionIf you're interested in The Experience of a New Blogger - Week 9 feel free to read how mine is going! If you don't have the time to read it, then you should pin it and read it later!

Week 9 was much better than week 8 was. Even though I was able to complete a few of my goals, I am still not satisfied. Each week I am going to try to improve more and more. I hope to quit making promises that ultimately, I end up not keeping. It isn’t a practice I want to make a habit of. I am really looking forward to finally getting my new theme and logo put up. I’ll probably be doing this on Thursday night so my site may be down for maintenance for a little while during that time.

I’ve noticed a huge correlation between how active I am, and my viewers each week. The more productive I am, the more people show up to read. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out, but it’s crazy to see how much of an impact it can actually have. I really want to boost my social presence some more this week. Maybe I can meet all three of my social media goals because of it.
