The First Year of my Blog

The First Year of my Blog 2016-12-07T22:14:49+00:00

day1Day 1

My blogging experience starts now! I have always looked through the popular bloggers, YouTubers, Viners, or any other popular media outlet being monetized. One thing they all seem to have in common is that their beginnings seem to have either been deleted or are buried behind their years of posts.

Well I want to document the very first year of my blogging experience (for better or for worse). I do not want to delete this post after a while, I want it to serve as a reminder, to me, of everything that I accomplished between now (Oct 2016) and then (Oct 2017).

There is a chance my blog will be a huge success. Maybe it won’t, but regardless I, along with all of my readers, will at least have a year of my attempt documented!

What was done on the first day?

On the first day of my blog I:

I went through a few growing pains at the start and easily became frustrated at how much work needed to be done, but ultimately I powered through it and was able to tell myself “you just started, not everything will happen all at once. Try to slow down!”. This all helped tremendously and has allowed me to settle into my page much easier!

Week 1 Blogging Experience

Today marks the first full week of my blog being up and operational! I’ll go ahead and wait while you pick your jaw up off the ground. But really, I can’t say that it has been a bad week. It is a lot more fun to blog than I originally thought. I have always enjoyed writing and had a sense that I might enjoy this, but it has exceeded my expectations. Needless to say, I am excited for what is to come. Lets go ahead and do a recap of what all was accomplished during this first week.

Week 1 goals

Make a blog post every day of the work week – SUCCESS

Monetize each blog post – FAIL

Post each blog article to social media – SUCCESS

Have a functioning website – SUCCESS

Get social media setup and started – SUCCESS

Get familiar with WordPress – SUCCESS

Gain 1 subscription – FAIL

Make any amount of money – SUCCESS

Set achievable goals – SUCCESS

Reaching the majority of my goals was extremely exiting to me. I was not sure where exactly I was going to start when I created this blog. Because I didn’t seek it out I haven’t really had any direction or much help in the appropriate ways to build a blog from the start. It would be interesting to change that next week and see what kind of difference it makes.

There wasn’t any specific social media goals because I am just now getting everything off the ground. I figure I will save those goals until I approach week 5. It was a big deal, at least to me, that I was able to post a blog each day.  I am dedicated to making sure I get these articles posted daily even though my schedule can be a little hectic.

I’m patting myself on the back for familiarizing myself with WordPress, but I still feel like I have way more to learn. I constantly have to open each tab because I forget where I found the portion of the site I needed to access. Getting social media started up wasn’t really that difficult. The hard part is going to be boosting the numbers on those platforms.

I setup a facebook, twitter, and pinterest just to get me started. These were the platforms I knew best so I figured why not start with what I know and learn the rest later. One thing I want to try to do each week is set obtainable goals. I enjoy being able to mark most of my goals completed and I would like to keep it that way. Obviously I am well aware, I won’t have 5000 subscribers next week so why would I set myself up to fail?!

Yes, I know my Twitter following is incredible but lets shine some light on the other two. I was really impressed with Facebook, because I just opened up the group today. There is no expectation for next week to show the same growth just because the majority of the likes from today were friends and family getting an invite from me.

I will have to find a way to boost my likes on Facebook without putting money in. The majority of my Pinterest followers were from those that I had followed in my attempt to connect with my new blogging world. I have only had one small conversation with a blogger. She was very helpful and she has such a wonderful blog full of great content. Maybe one day I will be like her, until then I am going to continue doing what I am doing. Hopefully I can have all three of these numbers up a little come the next week so that we can continue a trend of progressing.

Blogging Experience Week 2

I do receive commissions for purchases made through links in this post. These are all products that I highly recommend. I wouldn’t put anything on this page that I would feel bad telling my own mother about!

It’s already been two weeks of blogging!!! Whew look at me go! Okay, so two weeks really isn’t a huge accomplishment but still, I’m working on it. Hopefully I can look back on this in 40 weeks and think, wow how things have changed. I hit a little bit of a rough spot during this week. I was swamped with work, and the birth of my gorgeous little god-daughter so blogging took a little bit of a dip during this week and my site traffic reflected that. That’s okay though because I was still able to manage to post two articles this week plus this one I am writing now.

Not a total failure but I am quickly realizing the reality is, I don’t see me currently being able to make 5 QUALITY posts a week and live my life. Maybe one day, as this blog gains traction, I’ll be able to devote a little more time to it instead of working overtime. Gotta pay the bills though, right?

I managed to connect with a couple other bloggers and got introduced to some new blogging groups to help me manage my stuff a little better. In fact, one of them helped me realize that if I keep posting 5 times a week with a full workload outside of my computer, I won’t realistically be able to manage that kind of time.

This is all sounding bad and super gloomy and depressing and I promise it wasn’t all bad! I actually enjoyed being able to bond with other bloggers a little more instead of having to focus on making sure I posted articles. Hopefully I can continue with this method and allow it to help improve my blog! Okay okay I know you’re really wanting to see how I did on my weekly goals and looking at my goal list, I think I turned out okay this week.

Blogging Week 2 Goals

Make a blog post everyday of the work week.  –  FAIL

Monetize each blog post.  –  FAIL

Post each blog article to social media.  –  SUCCESS

Improve website functionality.  –  SUCCESS

Increase Facebook likes.  –  SUCCESS

Boost Pinterest followers.  –  SUCCESS

Gain Twitter followers.  –  SUCCESS

Get more familiar with WordPress.  –  SUCCESS

Gain my first subscription.  –  SUCCESS

Make any amount of money.  –  SUCCESS

Take a class to improve my blogging journey  –  SUCCESS

Set achievable goals.  –  SUCCESS

WOW a lot of “SUCCESS” up there! I like to see that and it’s great that I was able to do so well. I mentioned last week that I want to ensure I set achievable goals so I can have small victories to celebrate each week. I’m trying to embrace the power of positivity and trying to boost my blogging self-esteem, my blog-esteem if you will.  You know what? I actually kind of like that and will probably use it again!

Last week, I made it clear that I wanted to post everyday of the work week but in week 2, I realized it puts way to much pressure on me. I caught myself trying to rush through writing an article just so I could be done with it. That’s not fair to all of my readers. Every last one of y’all deserve to have an article that was thoughtful and well written. So I’ve decided to give that to you. I won’t make any more promises on the amount I am going to write but my plan is to get 2 articles posted plus my weekly update. That will mean I will post, hopefully, three articles a week. Who knows, maybe I’ll write more, maybe I’ll write less. We will just have to see how everything goes as time passes!

Week 2 it was still fun to blog, I’ve managed to have some success on gaining traction in social media, but I’ll get more into that later. While I was trying to search my blog up on my cell phone, I found my site was extremely difficult to maneuver when using one. So I had to take some time to figure out how to fix it, and was super excited to find out it wasn’t that big of an issue. Hopefully if anyone finds some issues navigating my blog, please let me know so I can try to address it, Thanks!!

I was pretty happy with most of the numbers on social media. I was a little disappointed in my Facebook following but, then again, I really didn’t spend a whole lot of time promoting my Facebook account. I’ll have to try to do better on this one going into week 3. I was able to more than double my Pinterest and Twitter followers so that was awesome! Even though it wasn’t hard to improve off of 9 Twitter followers. Whose counting anyways??

I enjoyed this week, I didn’t make a lot of money but I did make some so I was super excited to see that number continue going up! I have been studying a class that I hope to finish this week so I can tell everyone all about it! So far it has been amazing and very helpful. Setting these goals has really helped me stay on track, with the exception of getting these things posted in a timely manner. Procrastination has always been one of my strongest features.

Do you blog often, if so what was your best financial week?

Week 3 Blogging Experience

So this is what three weeks of blogging feel like? I’m still having a lot of fun. Dropping my post count down from 5 a week has been really nice. I haven’t felt nearly as pressured to produce posts. It has allowed me to better manage my time as well.

While doing the 5 posts, I found it really difficult to update the functionality of my blog and better the SEO for each post. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization for those of you who may not be familiar with the term. The better my SEO is for each post, the better my chance is of you finding my blog on websites like Google or Bing.

All in all I felt like I had a pretty good week. I got involved a little bit more with the blogging community but I didn’t manage to take the time to really get to know anybody because I’ve been so busy. I know I keep using that excuse but it really is true. As much fun as blogging is, my primary job has to come first at this point in my life. Sure I’m making money on my blog but not nearly enough to live off of!

What Next Week is Going to Look Like

This weekend I’m hoping to spend a good portion of my time in haunted houses for a much-needed weekend of relaxation! Actually, next week I’m going to be writing up my first blog review so I’m super excited to see how it turns out and hear the opinions of my readers. I’ll be posting that hopefully earlier in the week along with a monthly income/expense report for the month of October. Yes, I plan on being completely transparent on my earnings AND my expenses.

The reason I want to be transparent is so you can see, first hand, EXACTLY how I have achieved my success or my failures. Hopefully if I’m failing, someone can view these reports and show me the error of my ways. If I’m succeeding… welllll then I get to gloat. I’m kidding but hopefully if what I am doing works, I’ll be able to show you and prove to you that it really is as simple as can be.

Alright so let us get down to the real business. How well did I do, in week 3, as far as the goals I set for myself? Well, honestly, not that great. I came in at a whopping 50% success rate! Now because I’m a glass half full kind of person, this isn’t too bad. You can’t always be perfect after all. So here is the run down of the goals I set for week 3.

Blogging Experience Week 3 Goals

Get blog posts done on time  –  FAIL

Make friends with 1 blogger  –  FAIL

Continue to improve website functionality  –  SUCCESS

Get to 100 Facebook likes  –  FAIL

Reach 350 Pinterest followers  –  SUCCESS

Have 100 Twitter fans  –  SUCCESS

Gain 2 subscriptions to my blog  –  FAIL

Make any amount of money  –  SUCCESS

So as you can see the part I struggled in most was having actual contact with anybody. I did received 1 subscription this week so I was half-way there. My blog posts ran a day behind for some reason. It was probably because on one of my writing days, I did a whole lot of not messing with my blog at all and the results show.

I reached two out of my three social media goals so I can’t really complain there. Still, I want to complain of course but I don’t have the time to invest into maintaining ALL THREE of them at the same time, at least not yet. I really struggle with finding a way to get my Facebook likes up without using any money. (I’m sure Facebook designed it that way intentionally.)

Website Traffic Report This Week

Weekly Views  –  227 (down from 250)

Weekly Visitors  –  62 (down from 119)

Top Views in a Day  –  62 (up from 54)

Best Day – Thursday

So apparently my stats are a little lower this week then they were the last week. I attribute that to less time spent blogging and less time spent promoting. I plan on changing at least the promotions part this week. My blog posts will probably be around the same. I want to try to keep posting at least 2 financial posts a week.

I’m going to be looking into ways that I can gain exposure and help boost by blog traffic. I may spend the majority of the first half of November, boosting my blog traffic. Well, enough about traffic, lets move onto a much better note!

Social Media Attention

Social Media outlets are the key to blogging success. Experience the growth of my blog in my week 3 blogging experience.

Facebook  –  84 (up 4 from last week)

Pinterest  –  449 (up 168 from last week)

Twitter  –  129 (up 54 from last week)

This numbers look much better than my traffic numbers.  I was expecting my traffic to reflect my social media growth, but it appears that’s not how it goes. (At least for now anyways) Last week I had said I was going to focus more on boosting my Facebook and that obviously didn’t happen.

I have been trying to gain a better grasp on Pinterest and I would say it’s starting to pay off. I wont lie though, I’ve had a little bit of help on my Pinterest strategy. What Pinterest strategy you ask? Well I’ll save that for my product review that I’ll be posting next week! So if you’re interested to find out how to boost your Pinterest followers and gain more traffic, come back and find out in a few days.

Week 4 Blogging Experience

Welcome to my week 4 blogging experience. This is where I will go over everything that has happened over the past week. If you’re new to PPF Financial then let me start off by welcoming you to my blog. If you’re not then let me welcome you back!

I wanted to make a weekly blog update at the end of every week for the first year of my blogs life. The reason I am doing this is to give any current or future readers an insight into all the making of my blog. Plus it will be something I could look back on later and enjoy the hard work and dedication I put into blogging.

Those of you who have been here before, feel free to skip ahead to the first section. For those who have not, the reason I want to be so transparent is to help build up some trust between you and me. There are many places you could about finance and many other things you could be doing. The fact is your here with me now and I want to help build a lasting relationship. Let us begin shall we?

Every week I will cover:

•  What next week will look like

•  Did I meet the goals set last week

•  My websites traffic report

•  The social media attention I received

•  A list of articles posted during the week

•  The goals I hope to achieve next week

My hope is to eventually be able to blog full-time and become my own boss. None of this will be possible without the help of everyone who checks up on me every week. So far all of you, I thank you and I appreciate any and all support.

I really do enjoy doing this and I hope that I can help even just one person out. That would be enough for this all to be worth it. Every week I post these articles, I want to be able to inspire and motivate someone to do better for themselves.  This is as much about every single one of you as it is about me!

What Next Week is Going to Look Like

For starters, I have to get better at getting these articles in. I seem to procrastinate long enough to get behind. I really do apologize for being late. Ask anyone who knows me, it’s not really a surprise. I’ve got a couple of article topics drawn up that I feel pretty strong about. I know I’ve been asked many times before on how to handle some of these things and hopefully I can get that passed down to you.

I’ve been in contact with a few bloggers this week and hope to continue to build those relationships. I’ve been debating on changing themes but I’m just not sure where I would go with it if I changed it up. Maybe some of you can help me with this… Do you think a new theme would be helpful or nice to see?

I still haven’t managed to get all of my blog posts updated as far as my SEO on each post. I also haven’t taken the time to see if and where my blog is running slow so I hope to check on that next week. I’ve also noticed when looking at my blog from other devices, it doesn’t always show up the way I would like it to. I’m not sure how to fix that issue but I plan on finding out.

A really big issue people have been telling me about is that they are having trouble commenting on my blog articles. They say it keeps rejecting them due to being suspected bots?? Not sure what that is all about, but I really need to get to the bottom of that as well.

I’m seeing a lot of progress in my website and I’ve noticed quite a bit that I’ve become a little more relaxed with what to write. I use to get a lot of writers block at the start because I had no clue what I was doing. I still really don’t have a clue but at least I’m more comfortable not knowing at this point.

Blogging Experience Week 4 Goals

• Post my first official product review  –  SUCCESS

• Publish the first monthly income/expense report  –  SUCCESS

• Boost Facebook likes by 25  –  FAIL

• Reach 600 Pinterest followers  –  SUCCESS

• Double my Twitter followers  –  SUCCESS

• Finish updating the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for all of my articles  –  FAIL

• Get at least one article for next week done this week.  –  FAIL

Okay, so this week was a win as far as all of my goals go. I completed 4 out of 7 goals that I set for myself. I would have liked to have been 7 out of 7 but I was really busy near the end of my week with work. It didn’t help me any that I procrastinated on the front part of my week.

I was able to successfully post both the articles I wanted to make sure got done last week though. My product review and monthly income report were pretty important to me. I was happy to share my excitement in my review of the Making Sense of Affiliate Marking course. Plus I want to make sure every month I publish my monthly income/expense report.

This past week I did pretty well on improving my website traffic and my social media presence. I met only two of my 3 social media goals this week but I met them by quite a bit. This played a huge roll in boosting my website traffic this week. I guess I am going to have to insure I really pay attention to social media, even on the days I am swamped with work!

Website Traffic Report

Weekly Views  –  332 (up from 227)

Weekly Visitors  –  167 (up from 62)

Top Views in a Day  –  69 (up from 62)

Best Day – Thursday

So I really killed it this week in boosting the amount of visitors I had to my blog. This attributed to my success in growing on social media. There hasn’t been enough time for me to see where I fall at on the search rankings but I plan on getting that information next week. My attention is still to focus on social media this coming week though. If I don’t knock this kinda thing out one problem at a time, I wont get any of them done.

This week I’ m going to continue to focus on social media and try to make a nice push in that market. If I can do well with that, then I’ll be able to move my focus to where I rank at for some of the major search engines. Getting a good boost from the search engines along with my progress in social media should yield pretty decent results for my traffic.

Social Media Attention

Facebook  –  93  (up 9 from last week)

Pinterest  –  669  (up 219 from last week)

Twitter  –  423  (up 294 from last week)

Surprisingly I found quite a bit of success with Twitter and Pinterest. I was super excited to see this increase! I had been moving pretty slow in the area of Twitter and placed a little more focus on growing that source. Pinterest has been my most steady success. I continue to grow quite a bit with Pinterest and I’m hoping that number climbs further.

With Pinterest and Twitter, I’ve been trying to make it a point to be very active on them. I have found that it helps a lot. It doesn’t really seem to matter, at this point, how active I am on my Facebook page. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can organically grow my Facebook group? I refuse to beg and spam people to join my page so I have to find a way to get it in front of more people.

Blogging Experience Week 5 Goals

Welcome to my blogging experience week 4. This is where I will go over everything that has happened over the past week within my blog. Check out how I have built my bog and where it's at after week 4 by clicking above. If you don't have time to read now, save it as a PIN and comeback later.

•  Get back on schedule with posting on time

•  Update all of my SEO for all of my currently published blog

•  Reach 100 likes on my Facebook Page

•  Make it to 750 Pinterest followers

•  Have 550 Twitter followers

•  Publish 2 articles outside of my weekly updates

•  Change my page logo at the top

Conclusion

With the success I had on social media, I hope to build on that and continue moving forward with my blog. I want to try to always have 7 goals each week. I felt like last week was a bad week for me and my blog. After seeing I reached more goals than I didn’t, it made me feel so much better about my progress.

The boost in traffic and in social media was awesome to see at the end of the week. Another reason why I am glad I do these weekly updates. If I went a whole month thinking I was performing poorly, it could easily cause me to get discouraged. Posting these for you each week really helps motivate me to keep doing my best.

I’ve realized, this week, it doesn’t matter how successful my blog becomes. Really all that matters is that I enjoy what I’m doing and that I continue to be dedicated to helping others. Money and fame isn’t everything and shouldn’t be held to such a high standard. The joy I feel when I know I’ve made a difference in someone’s life is worth more than anything anyone can give me!

What are ways that you’ve found to make a difference in someone’s life? How did that difference make you feel?

Week 5 Blogging Experience

Welcome to my 4th week blogging. This is where I will go over everything that has happened over the past week and what my blogging experience week 5 looked like.

Blogging experience week 5 is now in the books. It really does feel like I only started blogging a week ago. Time has sure been flying by on me. I’m sure it’s because I’ve been swamped with my offline work and trying to build my online work. This is one reason why I would love to eventually be able to do blogging as a full-time deal. If I’m able to do this much with my blog, on top of working 60 or so hours a week, then imagine what I could do full-time!

So that’s not really a weekly goal of mine but it is a lifetime goal. I may create a page with my lifetime goals in it. I’m not quite sure exactly what that would look like or how much would be on it. I do know that it would be a forever growing list. Okay, okay, I’ve already talked myself into doing it. So as I began this blog article, I’ve apparently decided I want to create a page for my lifetime goals. I would like to get this setup sometime next week so that you can follow along with me as I achieve my goals and dreams.

This page is going to include blog related goals, life related goals, and basically an overall bucket list of the things I would like to do with my life. As I complete these life long goals of mine, I’ll strike through them and probably do an article about my completion of it. (Please let me know what you think of this idea!!)

I didn’t get to change my logo last week so that will be apart of what I would like to do next week. I may only get one blog post in so that I can accomplish this and the life long goals page. Even though that’s been about all I’ve been posting as of recent anyways. I hope to change this trend in the near future. Until then, you’ll just have to bear with me!

I’ve also been in contact with a few other bloggers and might be looking to do some guest posts. I may even be able to have a couple of them provide a little something for all of you! That would be a really big deal for me because, as you might know, connecting with other bloggers has been a major goal of mine since I started. Oh and if you think the logo should stay how it is, you should tell me soon!

Blogging Experience Week 5 Goals

•  Get back on schedule with posting on time  –  SUCCESS

•  Update all of my SEO for all of my currently published blog  –  SUCCESS

•  Reach 100 likes on my Facebook Page  –  SUCCESS

•  Make it to 750 Pinterest followers  –  SUCCESS

•  Have 550 Twitter followers  –  SUCCESS

•  Publish 2 articles outside of my weekly updates  –  FAIL

•  Change my page logo at the top  –  FAIL

Okay, so I think this was probably my best goal completion rate thus far. I was able to complete 5 out of 7 of my weekly goals! I finally reached my 100 likes on Facebook! That has been WAY more difficult than I thought it would be. Thanks everyone who helped me reach it by the way!!

Overall I did pretty well in the world of social media! You’ll see exactly how well I did in a little bit. I was actually surprised at these results because I wasn’t able to spend as much time on those as I would have liked to. Hopefully I can change that this week, but I doubt it. I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me before the holidays start rolling in.

I wasn’t able to change my logo nor was I able to get in two posts this week. Too much time was spent trying to do something extra with the post I did do. Ultimately I ended up trashing that idea for now, but I may come back to it later on. I think I will also be trying to spend some time this week finding more ways to make money online.

Whenever I manage to come up with enough decent ways to do this, I’ll be sure to let everyone know what I came up with. Hopefully this could lead to another review or two that I can do later. I know I haven’t mentioned anything about it yet, but if anyone knows of some great ideas that could help me to be closer to my dream of working from home, just let me know! I would be more than happy to hear them.

Alexa Ranking Global  –  6,587,906

My weekly views are down but my weekly visitors are up. I’m not sure whether to be happy about this or sad. I imagine it could be due to return visitors not needing to reread an article. Which would make sense if that is the case. Or on the darker side of things, I could just have a higher bounce rate this week than I did the last week.

I’m going to go ahead and just assume it is the former! Regardless of which one it is, I didn’t do to bad this week. The amount of my visitors continue to increase so I’m doing something correctly. This surprised me because as I said earlier, I wasn’t able to get involved with social media nearly as much as I would have liked to.

I’ve seen a lot of bloggers get into the habit of using automated applications to help them function more efficiently on social media. I may have to adopt this same application. If I can, I would like to save it for next month though. Trying to cut back on some spending this month until I have earned a little bit from my blog to counter some of the expenses. I’ve always heard, “you have to spend money to make money”. Hopefully I can make some money before I spend it at least!!

All in all I am happy with my blog traffic and I hope it continues to increase. I want to find some other avenues outside of social media that can help drive traffic. There has got to be other ways to bring traffic in, I’ve just got to figure out what those ways are. Regardless of if I find other ways or not, social media will obviously still have to play an important role in driving quality traffic to my blog!

Social Media Attention

Facebook  –  103 (up 10 from last week)

Pinterest  –  842 (up 174 from last week)

Twitter  –  625 (up 202 from last week)

I wasn’t able to grow quite as much in social media as I did the last week. This is obviously a direct result from not spending as much time in this area as I normally do. Regardless, I am happy with the turnout! I was FINALLY able to go over 100 likes on my Facebook group.

It has been a hard-fought battle with my social media sites but it is obviously paying off. Hopefully when I grow them a little more I can look to do a giveaway of sorts. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while but I want to build up a little bit of a following before I try it. I am still looking for any suggestions on how I can grow my social media pages up quicker.

Blogging Experience Week 6 Goals

•  Reach 1000 followers on Pinterest

•  Have 750 Twitter followers

•  Change the logo up at the top

•  Create a lifetime goal page

•  Find at least 1 additional source of online income

•  Locate another way to boost web traffic outside of social media

Conclusion

Take a look at my blogging experience week 5! It is truly amazing how far you can go when you put your mind to it. If you don't have time to read up on it right now, pin it so you read it later!

I’ve reached the point in my social media endeavors that even if I don’t spend days of my life building them up, I still manage to do decent. For me this could prove to be a bad thing. I like to get lazy on things that manage to work okay on their own. Making it a point to continue to excel on social media is a must because this seems to be a good chunk of the blogging traffic across the web.

I really would like to find a couple of ways to extend my reach online. This goes for making connections and making money. I know you can do decent as a freelance writer but I wonder if my writing skills are good enough to make that work for me. This will probably be one that I will look into during the week. I would imagine getting into something like this could take some time to get started but everyone starts somewhere right??

This was the first week I included my Alexa stats in my website traffic report. I’m not quite sure what is considered “good” for the length of blogging I’ve been involved in so I’ll just have to judge it based on my own increases or decreases. Hopefully I can continue to bring more people to my blog. I’m also looking to add something to increase or boost my Newsletter.

This will be the first weekend I’ve sent out my bi-weekly Newsletter so I’m excited about that. I want to be able to include something with my Newsletters outside of articles that you may or may not have read so please leave me with some ideas. In the future my Newsletters will also be the way you will hear about upcoming giveaways.

I will be sure to give “extra credit” for those that are already subscribed prior to the start of the giveaway. HINT HINT 😉 (Anybody who wants to possibly be a sponsor, or knows how to find some, for events like this please let me know so I can get it setup! ) That’ll be it for my blogging experience week 5! Come back next week to see what else is new!

What are ways that you can think of to boost your online income??

BLOGGING EXPERIENCE WEEK 6

Welcome to my blogging experience week 6. This is where I will go over everything that has happened over the past week and what my blogging experience week 6 looked like.

So I’ve made it a full 6 weeks now! Honestly, I wasn’t quite sure if I would be able to stick with it this long. I like to come up with an idea, try it, then quit after a couple of weeks. I really believe the biggest reason I’ve been able to stick with it is because of these weekly updates.

When I decided to do weekly updates I had no idea how they were going to go or if they would be worth a damn. Boy am I glad I did this! I’ve received a lot of messages about how people enjoy reading these each week. This really has inspired me to keep pushing through no matter how busy I get.

Alright, I’m starting to ramble a bit here so it’s time to keep moving on! Next week I want to really buckle down and implement a new theme for the blog. I also would like to reformat my blog posts to hopefully rank better in Google searches. I’ve been looking for a new theme for a week or two now, I just can’t seem to pull the trigger on a new one yet.

I’m not sure if I will post a blog article next week or not. With the holidays coming full force next week I may focus on some of the structural aspects of my blog. I still want to post one, if time allows, though so don’t think I’m just going to forget about you!

A side not, I have been putting off canceling a gym membership that I NEVER used. I started going to a new gym so I was paying for TWO memberships and only used one of them. This week I buckled down and made the trip to get it canceled. How could I preach not wasting money on useless things when I was doing that exact thing?!

Blogging Experience Week 6 Goals

•  Reach 1000 followers on Pinterest  –  SUCCESS

•  Have 750 Twitter followers  –  SUCCESS

•  Get to 125 likes on my Facebook group page  –  SUCCESS

•  Change the logo up at the top  –  FAIL (SORT OF)

•  Create a lifetime goal page  –  SUCCESS

•  Find at least 1 additional source of online income  –  SUCCESS

•  Locate another way to boost web traffic outside of social media  –  SUCCESS

So this was a super successful week!  I only got one blog post in this week but I was able to get my lifetime goal page setup as well. There are a few ideas I have in mind for this page that I am really excited about!

My social media goals were crushed this week! I was so happy to see the progress I made in this department. The goal I set for Facebook even managed to be reached this week. I may have to raise the goals for these pages because they’re starting to see some traction.

What do I Mean by “sort of  failed”??

I’m sure by now you’re wondering what I mean by “sort of” failed on the goal of uploading a new logo to my blog. Well, I am not super creative when it comes to Photoshop or any of those other visual editing programs so I hired someone to do it for me. I was supposed to receive it yesterday but never got it. Here I am almost 24 hours late, and still NOTHING! I’m not super happy about this but I am hoping it is because the logo is going to turn out awesome!

Really, the only reason that I am even a little upset about this delay is because I would have fully completed ALL of my weekly goals set for the week. Another week passes without a 100% completion rate. This is probably for the best though, because it gives me something to keep striving for.

I found a few other ways to boost traffic, they weren’t implemented this week and one of them may never be. One of the ways to boost it are through some paid avenues. My issue with this one is that I fear if I pay someone to help me boost my traffic, they may resort to some blackhat methods to achieve their results. I refuse to participate in this method so I may pass up on this one. The other one is making a boost to my keywords for search engines. I plan on doing this next week for sure so hopefully I’ll have some results to show for it.

My Additional Source of Income

There was no money earned from an additional income but that wasn’t the goal this week. The goal was to find a way to have an additional source of income. I found a way that I could post blog articles for another people and make a little extra money doing it. This may be where my article goes the next week so I can earn a little extra before the end of the month. Wish me luck on this because so far all of the things I have written, have been posted right here on my own blog.

Website Traffic Report

Weekly Views  –  237 (was 302)

Weekly Visitors  –  159 (was 211)

Top Views in a Day  –  60 (was 99)

Best Day  –  Saturday

Alexa Ranking U.S.  –  492,986 (was 648,396)

Alexa Ranking Global  –  4,639,676 (was 6,587,906)

All of my traffic stats dropped this week. I’m not happy about this but I understand why. Not nearly enough time was spent on my main traffic source, Pinterest. I was so determined to boost my other social media accounts that I neglected my number one a little too much.

Sadly this is probably going to remain the same though. I have seen way too many horror stories about how a blogger was blocked, by accident and on purpose, from a social media site. Normally it seems to be their biggest traffic driver too so they really feel the sting from the block. If I have a well-rounded social media presence, I should be able to avoid this issue in the future.

Last week was the first week I added what my Alexa rankings were so I’m not quite sure if I had a huge jump or not. My global rank improved by almost 2 million so I know that’s an improvement, I’m just not sure how this gauges compared to normal. This seems to be an issue I have a lot. I have so much trouble trying to figure out what is a normal growth rate or what is a slow growth rate. If anyone can shed some light on this for any of my figures, that would be so appreciated!

Social Media Attention

Facebook  –  130 (up 27 from last week)

Pinterest  –  1023 (up 181 from last week)

Twitter  –  827 (up 202 from last week)

As I mentioned earlier in this post, I didn’t focus nearly as much on Pinterest as I have in the past weeks. My major focus has been trying to find ways to boost my Facebook account. I’m seeing some improvements in this department so my work is paying off. I’ll try to spend a little more time playing around on Pinterest this week though to see how much of a difference it can make.

Even though I neglected Pinterest a little this week, I was able to break the 1000 follower mark!! Thank you to everyone who helped me achieve this! Next on the notch list is 2,500. Twitter isn’t trailing to far behind in this category. Hopefully I can find a way to hit 1000 on that platform this week. Facebook, goodness this is such a hard platform to boost. I’m going to aim high though for next week and see how we do. If I don’t get some blog articles posted, hopefully it’ll be because I’ve given more love to social media.

9 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT A 401(k) PLAN

Blogging Experience Week 7 Goals

•  Reach 1250 followers on Pinterest

•  Have 1000 Twitter followers

•  Get to 200 likes on my Facebook group page

•  Pin 100 times everyday this week on Pinterest

•  Earn money from my newly found additional income source

•  Locate a new theme for my blog

•  Have an editor look over all of my current blog articles

Take a look at my blogging experience week 6! It is truly amazing how far you can go when you put your mind to it. If you don't have time to read up on it right now, pin it so you read it later!

Conclusion

This coming week I want to try putting more focus on my social media and earning a source of income. As much fun as it is to post these blogs every week for you, I would really like to earn a little money at the same time. I don’t need to make a fortune but a little extra wouldn’t hurt.

Even though I may not be able to get a blog post in this week, I still want it to be a productive week. I spend a lot of time each week posting these articles so it’ll be nice to spend the time on something else. I’ll be completing one of my bucket list items this week so you should expect to hear about that in week 8!

The traffic I receive each day is staying pretty consistent with the exception of one peak day a week. I’m not sure what is causing this peak once a week but I can’t say I’m going to complain. I hope to try to bring my average page views to 50 per day this week.  This should be very achievable and would be a nice increase to my site traffic.

How many ways do you earn extra income online each month?

Blogging Experience Week 7

Welcome to blogging experience week 7. This is where I will go over everything that has happened over the past week and what my blogging experience week 7 looked like.

I have finally found the theme I want to use I just have to get it setup and get everything switched over. I’m having to do some research on this because this will be my frist theme change. Getting this right is important so that I don’t put myself even further behind. Steadily I am making progress but it hasn’t been easy.

This week was terrible for me as far as interacting with my blog and my readers go. I wasn’t present hardly at all on any platform this week. Then again that is one of the biggest reasons I want to blog for a living. If I want to go and enjoy the holidays with friends and family, I don’t have to worry about work!

I still stress over it though because I feel bad when I can’t produce for you. Maybe this time next year, I’ll have a couple of articles stashed away so I can publish them with minimum effort that week. Christmas is coming up, for those who celebrate it, so maybe this will be an opportunity to try to get this implemented within THIS year.

In  my weekly updates I always include what blogs I posted throughout the week. I think there is going to be an addition to this section. I want to also start adding blog articles from others that I’ve read and enjoyed. This will also allow me to use that as a “sponsored post” in the future if anyone wants me to post it on my weekly update. It also helps me make up for weeks like this where I’m not able to post anything throughout the week.

One of the items on my bucket list was completed this week so hopefully I’ll be able to add that to my post list for this coming week. I still want to try to do a guest post for someone.  Unfortunately I hardly have the time to update my blog with posts so it will be a challenge finding the time to do one for someone else.

Blogging Experience Week  7 Goals

•  Reach 1250 followers on Pinterest  –  FAILED

•  Have 1000 Twitter followers  –  FAILED

•  Get to 200 likes on my Facebook group page  –  SUCCESS

•  Pin 100 times everyday this week on Pinterest  –  FAILED

•  Earn money from my newly found additional income source  –  FAILED

•  Locate a new theme for my blog  –  SUCCESS

•  Have an editor look over all of my current blog articles  –  FAILED

My blogging experience week 7 was by far the worst one yet. I did not meet hardly ANY of my goals this week. Surprisingly I managed to make my Facebook goal. The Pinterest and Twitter goals though, were way off. Maybe I aimed a little too high, or maybe I just didn’t try hard enough during this Thanksgiving week. I’ll let you take a guess at which one it is. :/

As I mentioned earlier, I finally found a theme I like. I just want to be sure I have the time to make sure everything is functioning correctly when I make the theme change. Having my blog down for a couple of days is really not what I want at the moment. So I’ll need to be sure I can play around with it and work any kinks or design issues before leaving it to go public.

At no point this week did I pin 100 pins on Pinterest. Oh boy, try saying that 10 times fast. Pinterest did bring me a lot of traffic this week mostly due to a single pinner. I don’t know how she sent me all that traffic but I wasn’t complaining.

I didn’t earn any money from my new-found source of income this week. Mostly because it can be time-consuming and I just can’t seem to find the time. I’m going to work on this next week though. I wont be at work nearly as much so I should have some free time to get these things done.

I located someone to edit/proofread my work I just didn’t have them do it. I’m being stingy with my money so I held off on having them do the work instead of adding on to my pile of bills. Once my blog starts gaining a little ground, it may be easier to hire people to help me out. Until then I may have to place this investigation on hold for another day.

Website Traffic Report Compared to Last Week

Weekly Views  –  325 (was 237)

Weekly Visitors  –  234 (was 159)

Top Views in a Day  –  83 (was 60)

Best Day  –  Tuesday

Alexa Ranking U.S.  –  N/A (was 492,986)

Alexa Ranking Global  –  3,793,370 (was 4,639,676)

Everything improved this week! Without me paying any attention to my blog, it outperformed all of my past weeks. Maybe I should leave more often lol. Honestly my success on Pinterest this week is what made this happen. I didn’t go viral but it sure felt like it was getting close. This was a glimpse of what could happen with a single great pin.

Tuesday seems to consistently be my best day for traffic at least most times. I wasn’t able to get my Alexa ranking for the U.S. for some reason this week. If anyone is able to find my ranking in the U.S., I would love to hear from you! All of a sudden it just quit giving me that portion of my ranking. I’m not making nearly enough online for me to invest money just to see my online ranking.

Hopefully next week I can replicate these results because at that pace, I may actually be able to build a successful and popular blog by this time next year. Successful and popular are both used very loosely in this case. Never will I expect everything to come easy but I surely do see me getting 10,000 views a month by this time next year. It may not seem a lot to some of those with a steady following but for me, I will gladly accept this goal for now!

Social Media Attention Compared to Last Week

Facebook  –  268 (up 138 from last week)

Pinterest  –  1122 (up 99 from last week)

Twitter  –  863 (up 36 from last week)

Facebook, oh Facebook, how you improved so much this week! I literally doubled my Facebook groupies over this single week. Pinterest continues to rise at a steady pace and I have a lot of hope in how good it will turn out for me. Twitter is very hit or miss and seems to be a lot more spammy then the other social media outlets I use often.

Finding quality followers is really hard on social media. Sure, I can join lots of groups and have people follow and like my pages but are they really going to get me anywhere? Honestly, the majority of those will probably never set foot onto my blog space. It doesn’t bother me that they wont, I just don’t know if I want to boost my followers with a bunch of people who will never read a word I write.

Blog Posts From This Week

Okay, soooooo, I didn’t post a single blog post this week. ZERO! The big goose egg! However you want to say it, for this week, you wont be able to find a single blog post that was done. This is why I want to try to start promoting some of the bloggers I make contact with each week. I’m sure they would enjoy me spreading the love. Not that I am going to receive any compensation this week for the blogs I post about, one day I hope for this to actually be a thing.

Each week I will be including a combination of articles from bloggers I stay in constant communication with throughout the week, articles I personally enjoy, and my favorite, PAID articles. If I start allowing people to pay for their link to appear here, I will only be doing a couple at a time. The highest bidder will win that week!

If you didn’t notice above, I just gave a really great way to make money on your blog. I’m sure this would only be valuable if you have a high amount of traffic, but hey who knows. I’ll give it a try. Anyone interested in paying to have a link posted in this section, feel free to contact me. The bid will start at $1.00 in U.S. currency! Keep in mind, unless someone else pays to have their blog featured, yours will be posted in the following week, free of charge! What a deal! lol okay, so I’ll stop trying to sell you a spot and go ahead and give you a couple of blog articles from some friends in the community.

Teach a Man to Think

A post from my friends at Teach a Man to Think. Their goal is to get people to open up their minds and understand their potential if they just took a step back and thought for themselves instead of the thoughts that the world wants them to think. They believe the best way to change the world is to start with ourselves.

They strive to use their experiences, curiosities, stories, and discoveries to get people to question everything and live the fulfilling life they want. Their experiences have taken them all over the country and sometimes that includes spending countless hours in a coffee shop. If you find yourself with some free time, I would recommend checking them out when you get the chance!

Marriage Reset

Those of you who are married or have been in a long committed relationship, you could learn from my friends over at Marriage Reset. Both halves have started posting on this blog as of recent and I couldn’t be more excited for the things to come. I’ve never been married but that still doesn’t mean I can’t learn from a couple who have done it for a long time.

I’m a huge fan of their’s and #WednesdayWisdom – All That Glitters, is a great post to read! If you rely on how pretty something looks or how great it feels, you may pass up on some of the more important parts of your relationship. When beauty fades, you’ll be left relying on the heart and soul of another and physical attractiveness does not equate to having someone who truly cares for you.

Blogging Experience Week  8 Goals

•  Reach 1250 followers on Pinterest

•  Have 1000 Twitter followers

•  Get to 300 likes on my Facebook group page

•  Pin 100 times everyday this week on Pinterest

•  Publish two blog articles this week

•  Setup the new theme for my blog

•  Have an editor look over all of my current blog articles

ConclusionLearn how my blogging experience week 7 went. Spoiler alert, I failed at quite a bit of my goals but learn how I came back from it! If you don't have the time to read the article now, PIN it so you can come back and read it later when you have time!

The goals listed above may look a whole lot like last weeks goals. If you were thinking this, you are completely correct! I failed a lot last week so the only way I know to bounce back from such a bad week, is to achieve the goals I should have made last week.

The goal I want to complete the most is to get two articles posted next week. I didn’t get one up this past week and I feel like I at least owe you one. It would be awesome if I could get more than two written, but I’m wanting to stay within reasonable goals lol. This past week was a poor week as far as me being active around my blog and social media. On a more positive note though, my blog seemed to do pretty well while  I was away.

If I plan on developing a passive income, I will need it to provide me a source of income, even if I am not around. A huge benefit to running a successful blog this will be. Being able to earn a decent living even while I am on vacation or busy seeing family is a huge bonus to what  I hope to achieve. I spent some time updating how each of my pages look, if you even noticed a difference, I am curious to hear what your opinions are.

What are some changes you’ve noticed to my blog? Were these changes for the better or much worse?

The Experience of a New Blogger – Week 8

Welcome to the experience of a new blogger – week 8. This would be my experience of course. This is where I will go over everything that has happened over the past week and what my experience as a new blogger have been. If you’re new to PPF Financial then let me start off by welcoming you to my blog. If you’re not then let me welcome you back!

Every week I post these articles, I want to be able to inspire and motivate someone to do better for themselves.  This is as much about every single one of you as it is about me!

What Next Week is Going to Look Like

Hopefully next week will look a whole lot different from this week! It has been a disastrously terrible run of a couple of weeks now. I want to continue to make sure I post these weekly updates so that you know I’m not giving up. As much as I would like to put my keyboard away for the holidays, I want to continue to push through and get these posts out there to help you!

This coming week I will for sure post two articles from my bucket list. I’ve completed two of my bucket list goal’s since I added it to my site. I wont tell you what they are now but I will be, I MUST BE, posting them this week. Also, I want to give some more advice related to the holidays and how you can keep your personal finances in order as we approach the end of the year!

I must say, if you start seeing some articles around the 31st of this month that don’t make any sense, you can assume I came into contact with some amazing New Year’s parties. Until then, I will be getting these goals completed! It was a terrible week, and has been a rough couple of weeks for PPF Financial. On a personal note, I have been having a lot of fun and really enjoying life. Please be patient as I will get some quality posts in soon!

Well, it looks like this week was a complete bust! I did not complete a single thing off of my blogging goals. It’s been a steady downhill spiral since the holidays started up. I wont make excuses though. This shows me that I have to try to do better. Social media has been rough these past few weeks. I have been trying to ensure I grow my following organically. I don’t want to add to my followers just for the sake of having a higher number.

There have been a few great people who regularly read my blog and anytime I hear from them, it means a lot to me. They probably don’t even know how much they encourage me to keep pushing forward. This week I failed every goal I put in place but,  I am not defeated. Through these failures, I will grow stronger and I will rise above.

I’ve slowly been approaching my social media goals. I hope to really try to push these in the coming days so I could at least get one of these completed. I’m joining up with a few link parties to help spread the word around. I’ve been a terrible blogging neighbor though. So many people have reached out to help me and due to my lack of time, sleep, and brain function, I’ve neglected to keep in touch with them on a consistent basis.

One of my biggest problems as of this very moment, is organization. Nothing I have is very organized and I lose track of things so easily. On top of getting my theme setup this week, maybe I should work on getting things to be a little cleaner. This should help my blogging process out so much if I can actually manage to take the time and do this. If I get to it, I will be sure and let you know how much it helps out. Wish me luck for this coming week, I really have to buckle down!

Website Traffic Report

Weekly Views  –  177 (was 325)

Weekly Visitors  –  118 (was 234)

Top Views in a Day  –  39 (was 83)

Best Day  –  Monday

Alexa Ranking U.S. (Canada)  –  98,357 in Canada (was 492,986 in the U.S.)

Alexa Ranking Global  –  3,263,764 (was 3,793,370)

My daily traffic has dropped incredibly. Honestly, this is not even a little bit of a surprise. With the lack of attention that I’ve been giving to every aspect of my blog, this is to be expected. I’m going to be more positive about things though. I have absolutely no clue how or why but when I searched my blog in Alexa, it shows me ranked within the top 100,000 websites in CANADA. Maybe I might need to do a post relating to my neighbors up North a few times.

My weekly views and visitors were cut nearly in half this week. This is not a trend I am happy about. I must bring this up next week and hope to bring some readers back. On a positive note, My global Alexa ranking has improved a bit. I hope to be under 2,000,000 before the end of the year. As far as the country ranking goes, I guess we will just have to see what comes up next week.

Social Media Attention

Facebook  –  283 (up 15 from last week)

Pinterest  –  1185 (up 63 from last week)

Twitter  –  905 (up 42 from last week)

Here is another place that suffered this week. Along with my blog traffic, the improvements on social media were down this week. Once again, not something that I wasn’t already expecting. Fewer people visiting from social media, less traffic that will show up to my blog. I know I keep trying to be positive but, I really am disappointed in myself for the lack of effort I’ve put in recently.

This week I will be improving social media. I have recently started using Tailwind and am hoping it will help make sure I get things out in a timely fashion. Plus after I’ve played around with it for a while I’ll give an honest review of what  I think about the program. If during that time, I try using Boardbooster, and Hootsuite, I’ll be sure to give as best of a comparison as I can.

Blog Posts From This Week

So once again I am at the end of my week and still no blog posts. I truly am sorry about all of this. I know you’re probably wondering if it’s even worth coming back week after week just to read my weekly roundups of how I did absolutely nothing! Well, unfortunately I wouldn’t blame you for stopping. Obviously I hope that you don’t because I will for sure be getting things going soon.

The holidays have been kicking my butt so far. Here are my two featured blogs of the week though! I can’t leave others who do put in the time and effort out. The first blog here is where I actually got the idea to do my bucket list blog section. I am super jealous of her because she is currently living the life I hope to one day have. Until then, I’ll just live vicariously through her endeavors and eventually create my own.

Annette really does have some amazing things here and it is well worth taking a peek out to see what all she has been able to accomplish!

Conclusion

My blogging experience in  week 8 was a very lousy effort on my part. I hate using excuses because it doesn’t change anything. Things will be better the following weeks. I mean honestly, I can’t do much worse. I need to start reading more of my inspirational quotes. Maybe, that will help boost my spirits.

For those of you who continue to read each and every week, I thank you so very much for supporting me. It really means a lot to me and helps me so much. All of you out there who are struggling with anything in your life, just know, it will get better.

On a more serious note outside of the blogging world, please be kind to others. I spend everyday around people having one of the worst days of their lives. Sometimes all it takes is a kind word from a stranger to change the way another person sees the world.
